Bumper sticker Misnomer

I saw “IT” today.

As I was driving to the school to pick up my gurlz, I was in back of a red van.

The van had about 4 bumper stickers, but only one popped out to me.

It said:

“Pro-Choice AND Christian!”

“Whaaaaa…..”?????

According to Wikipedia,

Pro-choice describes the political and ethical view that a woman should have complete control over her fertility and pregnancy. This entails the guarantee of reproductive rights, which includes access to sexual education; access to safe and legal abortion, contraception, and fertility treatments; and legal protection from forced abortion. Individuals and organizations who support these positions make up the pro-choice movement.

A Christian Is….

The first known usage of the term Χριστιανός (khristianos) can be found in the New Testament, in Acts 11:26: “the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” The term was thus first used to denote those known or perceived to be disciples of Jesus Christ. In the two other New Testament uses of the word (Acts 26:28 and 1 Peter 4:16), it refers to the public identity of those who follow Jesus.

“Christian” also means a member or adherent of a church or other organized group within Christianity. As an adjective, the term may also describe anything associated with Christianity, or even remotely thought to be consistent with Christianity, as in “the Christian thing to do.”

So, in the bible, Christ tells us that we must not kill

Romans 13:9

9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

To say that you are a Pro Choice Christian is like saying yoiu are a CAT and a DOG at the same time!!

I agree with you. As far as my own body is concerned I am definatly pro life. And I wish I could “push” that on to others..but in this world that doesn’t work. People tend to look away when slapped in the face with issues like that. Live by example is what my parents always taught me. Killing a baby is well…just sad.

I believe in pro-choice at its most basic level.
It goes beyond abortion and is about giving women control over their reproductive organs before they are reproducing anything.

Growing up I was brought up with father that said
“Women shouldn’t like sex, It is for men to enjoy” (I am relatively, young)
Until thought like that disappears, we will always have wrong choices about having sex in the first place. Some women think “He will like me if I have sex with him”

I don’t want to see abortion any more than the next person.
Most pro-choicers are not happy to see an abortion performed.
It does relieve women of carrying children they can’t support, but it
    doesn’t feel good.
I want them to feel like they can say “No to sex” in the first place.

I had a friend who used to work at an abortion clinic (thanks to lovely bomb threatening protesters, she was forced to resign). There are women from all walks of life (married women and women who used protection). Of course you will have your “I really want to tie your tubes instead of give you yet another abortion” women, but they are not the majority. The majority of women are scared and don’t know where to turn. There are some Christian agencies that offer counseling services, but don’t always suggest the same outcome. I like the ones that do it in a loving spirit.

And as such a well read Christian, you know the bible says many things we ignore all the time. I personally am still working through the scriptures as a person of color. It does say something like “master treat your slaves well”. It doesn’t say that there shouldn’t be slaves. And with all the translations, theologians, and study bibles, it is a lot. I’m glad to see you have it all figured out.

It is a tough issue and we know what we are called to do: protect the sanctity of life.

A Christian cannot be pro-choice when it comes to abortion.
