What do YOU see in this picture?

It’s one of my favorite photos.  Big “A” and little “A” dressed up Halloween 2004 on Oahu Hawaii.  It had rained during the day and the sun was setting after the big clouds were leaving.  Believe me it looked way more spectacular in person.  The gurlz are dressed as Angels.  Do you see anything else in this photo?

Dirty duty

Getting dirty with the yard!  Maybe I really am “barnyard” lol.  But the call of the 70 degree day and sun could not be ignored.  I just need a bit of advice, eh?

Anyhow today I did a little cleaning up of some landscaping areas.

We have a strip of landscaping space that the renter before us had done.

It’s about 2 feet wide and runs from our front porch, parallel to the driveway and all the way to the END of the drive way, about 25 feet.

The prior renter had laid the black colored tarp down (prohibits weed growth?) and then put reddish cedar woodchips on top. We don’t know how long this has been landscaped like this.

There was also about 30 rocks, all irregular shaped lining the edge of the wood chip path.

(are you still with me? wake up! lol)

It looks kinda like this, (this is not a picture of our house) but all the way to the porch and no plants growing:

Doug decides he wants to take all the wood chips out and put lava rock, no problem.

But until we get around doing that, the wood chips had shifted, weeds were taking over that space and the black tarp was showing through.

Today, I simply removed the black tarp under the wood chips.

The weeds were all growing in it with roots coming out and everything!

I saved the chips and re-distributed them to cover the entire path.

I took out all the rocks that had broken and yellowed and straightened them.

All this took me an hour or more since I am green thumb challenged.

 It looks nice now though.

I felt productive. I think Lava rocks will look okay there. (like the picture)

Certainly less maintenance than growing out the entire path with flowers or ornamental grass

.  There is still the 6 by 6 foot garden area right next to the house that has awesome fertile black dirt for growing flowers.

However,,,,,  Doug is still concerned that I removed the black tarp beneath the cedar chips.

Does anyone know if we will have to buy more to put underneath the lava rock when we do put it down?

He is concerned that weeds will grow up through the lava rocks.  Please let me know if you know!!

Productively yours,

Sweetiegirlz

P.S.~ I saw a cute baby bunny in the yard!cheering
