we’ll be good, we promise
I’ve photographed this before. With my 300 mm lens. From the ground. But I didn’t HAVE that lens with me. I had my kit lens. *sigh* what to do…what to do… Oh yes, the fire escape. 4 stories up on a narrow metal fire escape, only to get the same picture I got before..with my long lens. That wasn’t the really funny part. The funny part was, “Hey! a fire escape. Let’s climb it!”
Him: Noooo…Renee no!
Me: c’mon…
Him: Bye. I’m leaving.
Did I mention that I loooove going places where I think I shouldn’t oughta be? ummm yeah, that’s HIM, sitting on the ground, down there, pretending he doesn’t know me.
Me: If the cops come, just don’t look up and give me away, K?

And so the evening went on, where we stopped to photograph Queen Anne’s Lace, and ever so softly the bleating of….sheep??? At this point, I had gone home and got my long lens, and so confident that I would get a GREAT picture of sheep grazing at sundown, instead got this:

Yes, that’s right. Sheep AZZZZ’s. And no matter how many fake sheep calls I did, they wouldn’t poke their fluffy little heads up and look up at me. Anti social sheep.
And that’s not all you see.
There were these guarding those:

Before I noticed this one, he was running at me. Yes, there’s a fence there but I could just see him hurdling it and pouncing on me, having my camera for a snack.

Even getting in the car and standing on the seat through the sunroof, with my 300 mm lens, could not get the shot I wanted… so I guess some photo essays really are “UN”remarkable. But we had fun trying, and that’s all that counts.
So here’s the rub. You’re tired.
You have a headache. But it’s a beautiful evening.
One of those summer evenings where just to stroll out down shady sidewalks with a gentle breeze is enough of a pleasure to overcome the pain.
Walk, I say, and not just walk, but bring your camera.
You never know if it might be raining by tommorrow evening, and what a glorious summer sunset you may have missed.
