Weekly Humor Photo~ And other Deep Thoughts

Soda-holic

* He’s realllly thirsty

There is a move in the works.  There is always a move when you are a Soldier but it is always a big deal when the whole family moves…

  again.

Since I was born I have moved approximately THIRTY times either from state to state/country or residence to residence within the state.

All of it was not while in the Army, or married to the Army.

And yet, there it is… we have another move coming up by the end of the year.  Another state.

 another packing and unpacking.

 Another job for Sweetiegirlz.

 Another school for the kids.

 Another road trip.

  Another lusting after home ownership.

 Another yearning for settling down.

If you are a soon to be wife of a Soldier:  Please consider this type of forced nomadic life that your man and children will endure when you say “I do.”

I’d be lying if I said there weren’t  certain perks to being in the military, either as a wife or as the Soldier.

But to me, weighing the perks against the caveats is like having a big boulder on one side of the scales and scrounging for pennies to throw in the other side and make it balance.

It’s possible to do, but it’s very difficult.

If you have children, life certainly gets more interesting as they grow up and discover that they have friends, now they don’t

.  They have a comfortable routine and “oops” it’s time to move.

I still remember VIVIDLY when moving to Hawaii from Kentucky,  One of my young daughters said to us  in the hotel we happened to be staying at:

  “I WANT TO GO HOME”

She just didn’t understand at all.

By the way, we’ve had hotel stays up to 5 weeks before, while waiting on Government Housing.

Big  A has moved 7 times in her 13 years on this planet.

Now Doug has been accepted into another assignment now that he has been promoted, and it’s moving time…again.

For me, there’s only one big perk to this particular move.  That we are going to live near my grown daughter who is 21, whom I get to see only once a year.

That’s it.  Doug may be really excited now, but when the “new” wears off, it’ll be just another job for him and he’ll be waiting for another move.

*random extra:  I like having girl dogs as pets.  I just like saying,  “Good nite Bitches!”  when I go to bed at night.

I was going to put this comment in the other blog about not having a house, but seeing that you are facing a move (again), I’ll put it in here. You were saying…that you don’t get much feed back about your photography and I was wondering if you could start a group wherever you are of photo enthusiasts who all want more feedback and enjoy talking shop? It’s the type of thing that you could join easily and perhaps meet more people who are interested in photography. Also, you could take a adult ed course in a local high school or community center. They usually have them each season so it would leave you flexible and not too committed. You could also consider taking some college courses if you wanted on graphic design, photography, photoshop. They also have online courses or do it yourself tutorials that would help you learn more.

I think if you do not have family or friends who are interested in your creative skills, you need to go out and find some who do. They are out there. Often toiling in isolation just like you and would probably welcome a weekly group of artists.

    There. I’m done now.

Pat~All of those sound like very good ideas. I will check them out once we settle in. Once he gets his marching orders, we should be here in Kansas another 60 to 90 days, so it’ll be awhile.

Doug is encouraging me to take photog. classes at a Community College once we move. In the meantime, after vacation I will be putting together my very first portfolio, having done a little research online about the ins and outs of it.

I appreciate you caring enough to write me with some advice! I like that. :-)

Your comment about the dog made me laugh. So I guess you answered my question about the status of Doug’s job. Not going to happen as soon as expected, but the end of the year.

Good think we can keep in touch. I’m happy for you guys. I hope you get an awesome job there!
